Who is Oroma Elewa?

"I am my own muse. The subject I know best. The subject I want to better." While this quote is widely attributed to that of the late great Frida Kahlo. It's actually the written words of Oroma Elewa. If you go to her instagram page you will find many posts with her voicing her stance to the world about fighting back and fighting for visibility as black art and black creations are constantly over shadowed, stolen, and white washed. I highly recommend any fan of Frida Kahlo's to dig deep and peruse through the works and art of Oroma Elewa.

As we strive forward as artists and creatives of all types let us pay homage and give credit to black artists and black creators who historically have been stolen from by lesser more mediocre white contemporaries. We stand with Oroma Elewa, the original creator of the famous muse and subject quote.
